During the first two weeks of July, Fraser Crossing Partners completed underground utility work on Agnes Street between Coburg Street and Dufferin Street. Crews will continue with drainage work and curb installation in this area for the remainder of the month into August. Single lane alternating traffic on Agnes Street will be in place during work hours to create space for work areas. Access to Coburg Street and Dufferin Street will be maintained at all times.

Construction of the new bridge deck is ongoing in Surrey with crews lifting concrete deck panels on top of steel girders between the main bridge and off-ramp foundations just east of the existing Pattullo Bridge. On July 19, Fraser Crossing Partners will require an overnight closure of the Pattullo Bridge in the northbound direction due to the proximity of the equipment that is required to install deck panels to the existing bridge in Surrey.

Starting at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, Fraser Crossing Partners will be performing an overnight concrete pour to complete the pier cap for the in-river bridge foundation near the New Westminster shoreline. The concrete pour will continue into the following morning.
Nearby residents may hear noise from concrete trucks and heavy equipment while work is underway. Concrete trucks will access the foundation throughout the duration of the pour using the temporary access platform from the New Westminster shoreline south of Front Street. To access the work area, concrete trucks will be using Royal Avenue, Columbia Street, and Front Street.

On June 17, a six-month full closure of Front Street between Begbie Street and E. Columbia Street was implemented to install steel girders and build the new bridge deck across between the bridge and the in-river foundation near the New Westminster shoreline.
Once girders are lifted into place, they are bolted together to ensure they are safely secured. From Monday, June 24 through Saturday, June 29, crews will be conducting intermittent nighttime girder installation activities. This work must be performed at night to align with railway operations.

On Saturday, June 15, the Royal Avenue on-ramp will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Fraser Crossing Partners to remove trees that were previously trimmed in the area.
While the closure is in place, drivers wishing to access the Pattullo Bridge will be directed to use the Columbia Street loop-ramp via McBride Boulevard.

Construction of the Pattullo Bridge replacement is progressing with all of the on-land foundations, the bridge tower
and bridge foundation near the New Westminster shoreline now complete.
Crews are now constructing the bridge deck across the Fraser River. To complete this work, gantry cranes on top of
the bridge deck are being used to lift steel girders and concrete deck panels into place from above the Fraser River.
While this method of construction significantly reduces interferences to marine navigation, occasional short-term
restrictions of the navigation channels will be required to ensure public safety.

Starting Monday, June 3, crews will be installing underground utilities on Royal Avenue between Coburg Street and Dufferin Street. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will continue for approximately two weeks.
While this work is underway, one lane in each direction will be maintained on Royal Avenue between 1st Street and the Royal Avenue on-ramp. Occasionally, access to Coburg Street from Royal Avenue will be restricted. When it is restricted, eastbound drivers on Royal Avenue will be detoured at 1st Street. Westbound drivers on Royal Avenue will be detoured to 4th Street. Access to residences will be maintained at all times.

As part of the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project, the McBride Boulevard and E. Columbia Street intersection requires modification to improve safety for walkers, cyclists and drivers, and to accommodate the new direct E. Columbia Street off-ramp from the new bridge.
From 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24 to 5 a.m. on Monday, May 27, Fraser Crossing Partners will be regrading the McBride Boulevard and E. Columbia Street intersection. Lane closures and directional detours will be required. Columbia Street and the Central Valley Greenway between McBride Boulevard and Elliot Street have been closed since April 2 for crews to lift steel girders over the roadway between the bridge foundations on either side of Columbia Street. This closure will be extended until late May, as installation of the structural supports for the girders is taking longer than anticipated.

Starting the week of April 8, crews will begin delivering steel girders to the work site adjacent to McBride Boulevard and Columbia Street. These steel girders will be lifted into place during the current full closure of Columbia Street.
Approximately 14 nighttime deliveries will take place within a three-week period. When deliveries are scheduled to occur, there will be intermittent stoppages on E. Columbia Street and McBride Boulevard between midnight and 5 a.m. for crews to pull into the work site. Two additional steel components will also need to be delivered across all four lanes of the Bridge Connector requiring stoppages of traffic for approximately 10 minutes each to access the work area adjacent to the northbound lanes.

This new beacon will improve visibility for drivers and provide a safer crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.
To complete this work, the Royal Avenue on-ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers will be directed to use the Columbia Street loop-ramp via McBride Boulevard.

Starting Thursday, July 13, crews will begin intermittent pile driving for the new multi-use path foundation that is directly adjacent to the existing Pattullo Bridge.
A southbound slow-lane closure will be required on the Pattullo Bridge while pile driving activities are underway at this location due to its proximity to the existing bridge and road. To minimize traffic impacts, the southbound slow-lane closure will take place on some weeknights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Intermittent pile driving will occur on these evenings between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Royal Avenue overpass deck replacement has been postponed due to an equipment issue with the self-propelling modular transporter (SPMT). Crews are demobilizing and preparing the existing Royal Avenue overpass for re-opening. The northbound lanes on the Pattullo Bridge will re-open at 4:00 p.m. today (April 29).
Royal Avenue between McBride and the Royal Avenue on-ramp will re-open in the evening on April 30 after the pavement has been restored. The deck replacement work will be rescheduled and the project will communicate the new date when confirmed.

In-river bridge foundation work on the main tower for the new crossing is underway and will be ongoing for the remainder of the year. Construction on the foundation close to the New Westminster shoreline is anticipated to start later this year and continue into 2022. To expedite bridge foundation construction, and to minimize the amount of in-river work required in 2022, Fraser Crossing Partners plan on undertaking intermittent pile driving on Sundays between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting in November.

Fraser Crossing Partners (FCP) will be removing some additional vegetation along Leopold Place in New Westminster. FCP recently had an arborist inspect the hedge parallel to Leopold Place and it has been determined that the majority of the hedge is no longer living and needs to be removed for public safety.
The Project team is working closely with the City of New Westminster to develop a landscaping plan for when construction is complete. This will include planting new trees and shrubs in the area.

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the Pattullo Bridge replacement, is conducting utility investigation work on Columbia Street in New Westminster.
Sections of pavement will be removed and pressurized water will be used to locate and inspect underground utilities. This is required prior to the start of construction in the area.
While this work is underway, traffic will be reduced on Columbia Street to a single lane in the eastbound direction west of McBride Boulevard (near the Pattullo Bridge).

While this work is underway, there will be some noise and temporary no parking signs on Leopold Avenue. There will also be a closure of the southbound slow lane on McBride Boulevard between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. While this closure is in effect, the sidewalk on the east side of McBride Boulevard will be close and pedestrians will be detoured to the other side of McBride.

Fraser Crossing Partners resumed work on the in-river bridge foundations in late June and work will continue for the remainder of the year. A crane and barges are being used to achieve this work, as well as a temporary in-river access platform for marine construction on the Surrey side.
In mid-July, on-land foundation work will also begin for the bridge approach structures in Surrey. On-land foundation work will continue throughout 2021 and into 2022 on all foundations required for the new bridge alignment in Surrey.
Bridge foundation work in the river, and on-land, involves intermittent pile driving, and placement of reinforced steel and concrete.

Fraser Crossing Partners will resume work on the in-river bridge foundations this summer. This work is anticipated to start in late June or early July, subject to river conditions and in accordance with Fisheries and Oceans Canada requirements for minimizing impact to fish and fish habitat.
Intermittent pile driving will occur Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Welding and other ancillary work on site will occur at night and on Sundays. No pile driving activities will take place on Sundays or holidays. Nearby businesses and residents will hear some noise from the intermittent pile driving. As much as possible, a shroud will be used during pile driving to reduce noise.

Fraser Crossing Partners (FCP) will conduct road sweeping activities within the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project area in New Westminster and Surrey as part of ongoing road maintenance within the Project area. Road sweeping will take place during the daytime on residential streets to limit noise, and between 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. on major roads to limit traffic impacts.
FCP will be conducting routine road sweeping within the Project area, as well as on an as-needed basis following construction activities. FCP will notify impacted businesses and residents in advance of the start of this work.

As part of the overall tree removal work for the new bridge alignment and new connecting roads, the Royal Avenue on-ramp will be temporarily closed on Saturday, February 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow crews to safely remove the trees between Dufferin Street and the existing on-ramp. Trees removed as part of this project work will be replaced at a minimum ratio of 2:1.
While this closure is in effect, drivers wishing to access the Pattullo Bridge will be directed to use the Columbia Street on-ramp via McBride Boulevard and Columbia Street.

Fraser Crossing Partners (FCP) will be removing some trees within the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project area to allow for the new bridge alignment and connecting roadways. This work is expected to take place from mid-February to early April 2021.
Trees removed as part of this project work will be replaced at a minimum ratio of 2:1. The project team will work closely with municipalities and First Nations on the replacement of trees and the enhancement of sites within the project area over the duration of the project.
While the tree removal work is underway, there will be temporary no parking zones and lane closures to ensure public safety. All traffic pattern changes will be well signed and traffic control personnel will be on site when needed.

Subject to final permitting, Fraser Crossing Partners plans to start in-river work on the bridge tower foundation between February 13 and 28.
Crews will place rock for bridge foundation protection and install the first piles that will form the foundation for the bridge tower. This initial work will provide additional information on in-river geotechnical conditions, underwater monitoring data and construction methodologies. It will be complete by the end of February in accordance with anticipated Fisheries and Oceans Canada requirements, to minimize impact to fish and fish habitat.

As part of preparatory work for the Project, Fraser Crossing Partners will be demolishing some homes on Dufferin Street between Royal Avenue and Wellington Street in New Westminster, starting the first week of December. These areas are required for new direct on-ramps – from Royal Avenue and East Columbia Street – that will connect to the bridge as well as new multi-use paths.
Demolition work will take place Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It is anticipated to take approximately two to three months to complete.

The Royal Avenue overpass deck replacement has been postponed due to an equipment issue with the self-propelling modular transporter (SPMT). Crews are demobilizing and preparing the existing Royal Avenue overpass for re-opening. The northbound lanes on the Pattullo Bridge will re-open at 4:00 p.m. today (April 29).
Royal Avenue between McBride and the Royal Avenue on-ramp will re-open in the evening on April 30 after the pavement has been restored. The deck replacement work will be rescheduled and the project will communicate the new date when confirmed.

In mid-April, Highway 17 between Tannery Road and the Pattullo Bridge will be temporarily realigned as part of ongoing construction for the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained at all times during the day; however, occasional single-lane nighttime closures on Highway 17 will be required when traffic volumes are low.
Once the realignment is implemented, the left-turn from Highway 17 westbound onto Old Yale Road southbound will be permanently removed. Westbound drivers exiting Highway 17 can use Bridgeview Drive or Tannery Road.

Concrete trucks will be accessing the foundation throughout the duration of the pour from the main work yard in Surrey. To minimize traffic impacts, this piling work and the associated northbound lane reduction will take place on weekends for approximately two months starting in mid-March. The lane closure will be implemented on Saturdays between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and Sundays between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. when required. The lane closure may also take place on occasional weeknights between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Lane closures will only be in effect during active piling work at the location closest to the roadway. All traffic pattern changes will be well-signed, and changeable message signs will be provided at key locations to enable drivers to plan alternate routes in advance.

As part of the overall tree removal work for the new bridge alignment and new connecting roads, the Royal Avenue on-ramp will be temporarily closed on Saturday, February 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow crews to safely remove the trees between Dufferin Street and the existing on-ramp. Trees removed as part of this project work will be replaced at a minimum ratio of 2:1.

Trees removed as part of this project work will be replaced at a minimum ratio of 2:1. The project team will work closely with municipalities and First Nations on the replacement of trees and the enhancement of sites within the project area over the duration of the project.
While the tree removal work is underway, there will be temporary no parking zones and lane closures to ensure public safety. All traffic pattern changes will be well signed and traffic control personnel will be on site when needed.

Subject to final permitting, Fraser Crossing Partners plans to start in-river work on the bridge tower foundation between February 13 and 28.
Crews will place rock for bridge foundation protection and install the first piles that will form the foundation for the bridge tower. This initial work will provide additional information on in-river geotechnical conditions, underwater monitoring data and construction methodologies. It will be complete by the end of February in accordance with anticipated Fisheries and Oceans Canada requirements, to minimize impact to fish and fish habitat.

Fraser Crossing Partners crews will be doing some final work on the test pile in Surrey. This work is required in advance of the start of the bridge foundation installation and will provide additional information about the soil conditions and the equipment required for the piers for the new bridge.
Pile driving work will occur intermittently for a few days starting on January 28 and continuing the week of February 1. No piling will occur on the weekend.

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will be doing foundation investigation work in Surrey in the area of the new bridge alignment. This investigation work, a test pile, will provide additional information about the soil conditions for the piers that are required for the new bridge.
Work is anticipated to start in early September 2020 and take six to eight weeks to complete. Nearby businesses and residents will hear noise and might feel some vibration associated with the piling work. Traffic will not be impacted by this work.

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will undertake some geotechnical investigations in New Westminster and Surrey near the existing bridge,from mid-March to September 2020. Geotechnical investigations involve drilling boreholes in the project area to gather subsurface soil information.
Most work will be completed Monday to Friday between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Work may be required in the early evening to complete some of the boreholes near roads, to minimize traffic disruption.
